Oral and maxillofacial surgery requires up to 6 additional years of hospital-based surgical and anesthesia training. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are the only surgeons in the country who are required to learn general anesthesia techniques as part of their residency training program. As oral and maxillofacial surgeons, Our doctors manage a wide variety of problems relating to the facial and body regions. Our doctors practice the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery.

The staff of Cumberland Surgical Arts and Associates, PLLC is trained in assisting with intravenous (IV) sedation and general anesthesia within our state-of-the-art office setting. Patients are continuously monitored during and after surgery and under the care of trained professionals.

Our professional team consists of surgical technologists, registered dental assistants, oral and maxillofacial surgery anesthesia assistants, Registered Nurses, and Certified Nurse Anesthetists. All of our clinical staff are Basic Life Support and/or Advanced Cardiac Life Support certified.

S – Speak Up if you have any questions or concerns and if you don’t understand, ask again.

P – Pay Attention to the care you are receiving.  Make sure you are getting the right treatment and medication.

E – Educate yourself about your diagnosis and your treatment plan.

K – Know what your medications are and why you take them.

U – Use a healthcare facility that provides quality care.

P – Participate in all decisions about your treatment.

Pain:

Pain is considered to be the fifth vital sign. We as your healthcare provider would like to assist you with any pain you might possibly have. Prompt, appropriate treatment of pain facilitates a successful clinical exam and enhances your ability to undergo any tests that might be necessary to make an accurate diagnosis. However, it is at your physician’s discretion to prescribe any narcotic pain medication.  At times, surgery is the only definitive treatment for your pain and this office will not prescribe pain medications in place of surgery. Please discuss any pain control concerns with your healthcare team.
